I was made for more than this

I was made for more than this:

In the shimmer of a summer twilight

the sunlight filters through the leaves and teases my soul

Touching a familiar ache

The shadow of an echo of a beauty I’ve never seen with human eyes

But the eyes of my heart behold and cannot look away

I know my destiny is somewhere beyond the sunset.

I was made for more than this:

When everything is good and I know I’m blessed and yet …

Somehow I know there exists a surpassing better

Perfection impending

Suffering no longer existing

Glory beyond the mundane.

I was made for more than this:

And I feel like such a stranger on my own planet

As if in a few blinks this broken reality will shatter

Everything wrong made right

As I find rest for my weariness.

  1. This is beautiful, Susan. It reminds me of this CS Lewis quote: “If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”

  2. Thank you for the inspiration. I often feel this way, buy just like how you say, it goes away when you realize and accept that some things are meant not our way.

  3. I’m glad you shared this with us. This post has less words than your typical but… so much meaning! I’ve read it a few times over the past few days. I breathe, close my eyes, and pray. We were all made for more than our own purposes. Thank you for reminding. Bless you and your family.

    1. Thanks, Candy! There is something greater that we can’t see … a stronger love, a greater beauty, and a vaster greatness. We were made for it, and will not be satisfied until we arrive at the City with Foundations whose Builder and Maker is God!
